Preface

SEARCH'S first resuce successful operation.

Brian and Kelly had never seen so many: helicopters, planes, hot air balloons, blimps, and hand gliding equipment in one place at the same time. Rick and Jeff's family did more than just provide rides and equipment to people. They also helped out in times of need and emergencies.

This time it was the Sheriff's Department that contacted them. Apparently there were some lost campers in the woods. The campers were young and inexperienced city dwellers. Who, had just wanted to get away from it all for the weekend.

All of the boys, including the new kids had to either ride, in choppers or planes. All of the kids, but the new ones were familiar with the operations of radios. They also were well trained observers and they were equipped with powerful militarily grade binoculars. Both Brian and Kelly were to consider this on the job training. The rest of their eight boys' group were also to consider it necessary experience.

Fortunately, because of the size of their camp fire, they were very easily spotted. It was Jeff and Rick who were on the emergency scene. It was their job to safely put out and drench their camp fire.

The young man and his young wife were helped packing up their camping gear. And they were advised, the next time they went camping, to use a State Park. Maybe they had to spend some money, but they were well worth the expense.

They given specific instructions of how to return to the state highway. Just to make certain they left all alive and in one piece, both Jeff and Rick were to be their extra passengers.

They were equipped with powerful two way radios and binoculars. Both the man and his wife were told the two teens were extremely resourceful and they were in charge. With the help of the two teens the young married couple, safely left the wooded area, unharmed.

However, when the young couple tried to pay them both some money, they were politely turned down. Why not save the extra cash for their next weekend getaway? Reluctantly, the man and his wife, both agreed. They hugged the two boys farewell, and warmly thanked them for saving their lives!

The local press were invited and both boys were photographed in their working clothes jumpsuits and caps. Monday morning Jeff and Rick were the unsung heroes of their high school. There was a live action video of the rescue operation newly weds. Showing how all of the eight boys were ready to become the live action heroes they already were. The video was shown in the gymnasium during home room and first periods.
