Soul Illumination

by J.C McElheny

Smokey tendrils

Snake through the air

And they fall to the ivory floor and shattering

In a tinkling melody of destruction

In the wake of death

Solitude is born

Glinting in the soft darkness of the night

Dispelling the illusion of solid blackness

Luminescent orbs burn watchfully from around

Jaws click together

Responsive paws slip soundlessly over the loam

The beast pounces into the glowing ring

White fire illuminating its flowing muscles

Shadows flicker madly in a dance of death

Its eyes catch the light

Devouring it

And the darkness returns

The demon is gone
