Mother

by Jerry Ferguson

In the other room, away from me,

I hear her moving around, doing things unseen.

I hear her humming an unfamiliar song.

I close my eyes and listen to her humming.

"Hey!"

She then appears almost magically, bigger than life.

I open my eyes.

Her smile brings a smile to my child face.

My arms go out to her,

My mother.
