Green Bag of Soldiers

by Kevin Rottweiler

yes I was a child

and it was all adventure

with a big bag of green soldiers

putting them all over bookshelves

in the libraries at school

on the kitchen table

on the sidewalk

and we fought wars

in our minds

and in our hearts

of peace and love

and why men have to die

the green bag of soldiers

that daddy bought for us

made us men, too soon

we felt sorry for the losses

we felt bad for victims

of war and of hardship

but he taught us lessons

about the real world

and gave us pretend guns

and we battled as children did

Oh, those green soldiers

a childhood of abuse

putting too much on a child's mind

nobody should really

think about war

of any kind

they should pray for peace

green bag of soldiers
