Lasting Impression

by Anthony Perdue

The one about the girl hitchhiker who turns out to be a ghost. Only in this version everyone that picks her up once knew her. They are friends and family and minglings of a social nature. In flashback from the girl's perspective she remembers them.

The lasting impression left behind is both the one the girl had on everyone and the one they had her.

EXT. DESERT HIGHWAY- DAY

Along this highway leading towards a small town is a YOUNG GIRL, 24, pretty in a natural way. She is walking then stops as she hears a CAR approaching. Not recognizing the DRIVER, she continues walking. A SECOND CAR approaches. She turns and recognizing the 2nd DRIVER she waves.

As the car moves closer we see another YOUNG GIRL, WITH GLASSES, sitting behind the wheel of the car. The girl with glasses waves back. The car turns onto the dirt curbside and parks as the first young girl gets in.

The driver of the car is the ghost girl's sister and they talk about the way things were and are now. The girl with glasses mentions that a comic book artist/writer that she knows has now made the ghost girl the main character in his stories.

The car enters the town and it stops at a local diner.

The ghost girl is sitting alone in the car.

The town is abandoned.

                                               GHOST GIRL

Everyone's gone now. I'm the only one who wanted to stay behind. I thought maybe if someone finds their way here, I could tell them about my family and friends. I know sooner or later I'm going to reincarnate but until that happens I want to leave a lasting impression.

EXT. DESERT HIGHWAY-DAY

Along this highway leading towards a small town is a YOUNG GIRL, 24, pretty in a natural way. She is waiting for a ride and a chance to talk about the people and places she once knew.
