As She Lay Dying

When speaking of her cause, she would say:

"We travel mostly to desert towns, my group and I

Performing the discoveries that we make.

These discoveries aren't the kind

People want us to address.

Our presentations of actual local history

Conflict with imagined local history.

We're telling ghost stories,

But not the kind some people like hearing."

She believed that everyone should be remembered

And because she believed in this

She fought to make it happen

Those she fought against or fought because of

Did not welcome her struggle

Shots were fired

And a mirror that was giving off her reflection

Shattered into pieces

As she lay dying

A piece of that shattered mirror

Was held by Death himself

Showing her what effect

Her passing would have
