Like a Magician

by Anthony Perdue

A man sits on the curb

His toiling hands reach down onto the street

Like a magician he reveals a pair of discarded shoes

He removes the laces from these shoes

Replacing them with his own

Now these shoes will be tied to him

Now they will walk the way he walks

Now they will travel to the places he knows

Like a magician the man rises from the curb and leaves
