Little Wings

by Lee Oates

Little Wings

And I was weeping, like an open wound

All bound up in sentimentality.

As you were trying to let me know

That you need to grow. It's life's necessity.

And you'll be flying at the speed of light

When the time is right you'll spread your wings and soar

And after all, you've got a lot to share.

I'll say a prayer, you'll fly. It's what those wings are for.

But for now, I'll brush your hair aside

And when you cry I'll wipe your little tears away.

And through the years as I watch you grow

May you always know that I love you so.
