A Time for Roses

by Stephen Mabe

A time for small words

And brief, nervous talks

Afraid to get too close

We'd take our timid walks

A time for holding hands

And the words so few

With sweaty palms clamped

We knew not what to do

A time for maturity

To finally settle in

We'd learn what we want

And what we had been

A time for roses

And for beautiful talk

With sweaty palms clamped

We'll take our joining walk
