Preface

I had been friends with Mariam since forever, but i never knew our friendship would end like this. I had wished it would last a life time, but i guess its not like that for everybody. Especially after my Mom got mad with her, she was happy that Marie was gone forever. The years i spent with her were the best of all.

"Please no!" I screamed across the hallway. It was too late. She had already left. Mariam and i had been best friends since third grade, and have been inseperable ever since the first day of school. It was really great having such a great friend, who had stayed and gone through everything with you; break ups, bad grades, and even parent problems! I felt like Mariam was the only person in the world that actually understood me! Well, my parents absolutely hated her. It was back in third grade, when we all had parent teacher conferences. I was busy packing my back-pack when my mom came running up to me shouting. " Emily! I told you to stay away from that evil girl! Just look at what she did to me!" I looked at my mom up and down. Hmm, that was weird, i hadn't noticed anything unusual. I looked again. There was nothing! "But what DID she do to you mom? What is it and where is it?????" I asked. She gave me a petriffied look." You really can't see it?" She sobbed. "My favorite shoes are ruined!!" I looked down at her feet. Her glass looking red shoes looked fine. Maybe it was that little scratch on one of the shoes's sides? No, she has had that for a long time. I really don't know what she was talking about and didn't want her to get mad, so i just went along with it. "Yeah! She should be sorry!" I fake sobbed. Mom cried in dad's arms. At this point, they were both crying and i just didn't know what to do. "Good afternoon Emily's parents!" Ms green said. She was my science teacher (the kindest and prettiest teacher of all). I guess the conference started, and before i even knew it, we had changed the topic from weirdly damaged shoes to how i got cs to a+s in just one week. I guess you could say i was a genius after all! That is how mom ended up hating her. It has been 4 years already, and i still hadn't figured out how her shoes were "ruined". It was only mid trimester one, when Mariam came running up to me in the middle of recess. "Hi Em! I uh, just wanted to tell you something actually!" She said trying to sound happy and cheerful like she always was. I could sense something was wrong, because the tone of her voice had changed. I decided to go with it, cause she's my best friend and thats what you gotta do! "Hi Marie!!! (we gave each other nicknames; em/marie) What's wrong? Did jake break up with you! No way! I asked. "Oh no! Its not that Em! You know how sweet he is! Actually, i can't hide this from you anymore. Here goes nothing. I'm moving back to Washington next week." She whispered. This time, i could clearly hear the sadness in her voice. Its what we both wished to never happen. She was moving away! After almost five years! "Haha nice one Marie." I tried to laught it off. But judging by the look on her face, i knew she wasn't joking, this was serious. The rest of the week flew by in no time, and it was monday again. It was Mariam's last day here at Texas state junior high. I looked for her everywhere, but i couldn't find her! She was probably saying goodbye to her other friends, and doing it to me last. I saw her in the hallway, and ran up to her. She saw me, silently said something and ran off with a suitcase in her hand. She had tears in her eyes, and at that moment i knew it was the last time i was every seeing her. I tried to gather up all my courage, and say something. I was too heart broken to speak. I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. I guess this is the end of my friendship with Mariam, but something told me this wasn't over just yet.
