The Grace of God

by Dr. Pran Rangan

Rajesh had a small family consisting of a beautiful wife and two lovely children - an elder daughter and a younger son. They were all happy with all they had but Rajesh wanted to give them more comforts that could be possible. So, he worked about 12 hours a day. After working for 8 hours in the office, he gave tuitions in a nearby coaching centre. Therefore, he hardly could spend time with his family except on Sundays. His wife often urged him to give more quality time to the family.

Overlooking the advice of his wife, he kept on working hard like this till 15 years when he got promoted to the post of the Manager in the same company he worked for.

Now Rajesh gave his family all the comports of an upper middle class. He had purchased a big house in a posh locality. He had a car and his children began studying in reputed schools. By now he had earned and large amount of money.

One day, both children wanted to visit a beach often frequented by people from far and near. They hesitated to ask father's permission, fearing he might refuse as it was at a distance. Therefore, they asked the mother to accompany them and she agreed because she also wanted to visit it. Their father also agreed to their visit.

He told them to go ahead. He would follow them two days later, as he had some important work to finish at the office. When he reached the beach after two days, he found his wife crying and lamenting because their two children, who were so happily romping and running in the seawater near the shore, were swept away by large waves, all of a sudden, caused by a tsunami. They just disappeared into sea. Their bodies couldn't be found even by the expert swimmers. Probably, they had been swept far away, only God knows where.

Rajesh's wife, who kept crying bitterly, said to her husband that even their plenty of wealth couldn't help them at all. It all depended on the grace of God.
