Memory Lease

by SHREE UDTKARSH

Preface

Women suffer from memory loss. Later realized that someone was watching her.

In 2147, memories were no longer private. They were rent able.

Need to ace a test? Rent a genius's college years. Want to feel love? Lease a perfect honeymoon from a stranger.

Dara was a Memory Broker. Her job was to erase, edit, and sell people’s experiences to the highest bidder.

She never questioned it until one day she found a file labeled “Do Not Sell.” Curiosity got the better of her.

She played it.

A beach. A man is laughing. A kiss. Her laugh.

But she did n’t remember any of it.

The file was marked: DARA_2079_BACKUP.

She ran a search.

There were dozens of files—all of her. A different life. Different choices. A child.

She had n’t sold memories.

She had sold herself over and over.

And someone was still watching.

END.
