The Secret of Success

by Dr. Pran Rangan

Once, a man asked the great philosopher, Socrates, “What is the secret of success?”

Socrates asked the person to meet him near a river next morning so as to get the answer to his question.

The person met Socrates near the river next morning as decided.

Socrates asked him to get into the river to measure the depth of the river. The man did so and began moving toward deeper level of water. When the level reached the level of the man’s nose, all of a sudden, Socrates, who was moving quietly behind the man, pushed his head into the water.

The man desperately tried to get out of the grip of Socrates but couldn’t. After some time, Socrates left him. The man came above the level of water. He threw out water that was in his mouth and inhaled air a few times in quick succession to normalize himself.

When they came out of water, Socrates asked him, “What did you want when you were under water?”

The man answered him, “I wanted to come out soon from under water and inhale air.”

Socrates told him, “This is the answer to your question. When under water, you had a very strong desire to come out and inhale air. Similarly, if you have the same strong desire to succeed, you definitely will.”

When you want success as badly as you want the air, then you will get it. There is no other secret of success. _Socrates.
