A Day Above The Surface
I vividly remember the day I went to school to take my English exam.. Everything was going fine till I noticed that my pen’s ink was getting lighter and lighter after every letter I wrote. I found it a bit unusual as I had been using a new pen. I was beyond surprised to see that the ink of the pen was not on the tip; however, it was slowly moving upwards. My attention was diverted towards another student who had just let out a scream.
That’s when I noticed that my pen’s ink was not the strangest thing- All the benches were slowly but noticeably rising from the ground. My eyes took in the classroom, the exam was long forgotten, all my classmates were glancing at the invigilator, waiting for instructions; surely we could not continue writing our exam in this strange situation. Just as the invigilator had opened her mouth, about to say something, probably to bring the students under control, she started floating in the air. My first reaction was to laugh at the silly sight; however, my amusement did not last long as I felt myself getting pulled upwards. It was a weird feeling, not having anything pulling you down to the Earth is not something I was ever warned about could happen to me.
I took in the sight outside the classroom window; the cars were no longer on the road; instead, they too were floating, a few cars had turned upside down, and the passengers were frantically trying to get out of their seats. The pedestrians were holding on to the trees. This made me realize the intensity of the situation. While I was busy looking out of the window, the invigilator finally seemed to have got her bearings as she instructed us not to panic and stay in the room. The speakers of the school were turned on and I could hear our Principal’s panicked voice telling us about the news which had been aired on the TV; “The city of Surat is experiencing the sudden loss of gravity,” he continued, “However, there is no need to panic as it was only for a few hours.”
It was only an hour before I suddenly fell down along with my floating bench. Just as I thought that we would be informed to go back home, I was beyond shocked when our Principal informed us that we would have to complete our examinations now that everything was back to normal. Two days later, when I returned to give my Science exam, I couldn’t help but smile at the first question, “What is the importance of Gravity?”
Moral- We should be grateful for everything we have, even the things that might seem normal.
