An Unlikely Apprentice

by Devin Backman

The child witnessed things most foul

while overhead there flew an owl

the symbol of the devil told

his grandmother stiff and old

well on this night he now believed

after the show that he received

he saw a murder carefully planned

on a so called wicked man was this what that man had deserved

even the blood the boy observed the killer then turned to the child

his face was unusually mild and then he said some simple words

taken to the boy as a proverb

you must take all things in hand and carry out your own plans

and with that the boy then fled remembering the killers words

he remembers them to this day and vows to make tormentors pay
