The Astranged Cow

by Sonia Cheug

I chew upon the same green grass like all the others cows do but I don't understand why it tastes so different to me ?

I wish I could have just one brain and 4 stomachs like they do but I have 4 brains and 1 stomache instead .I am different to all the others cows . I can't moo ,so I sing to myself instead and I stand in the corner of the field sketching . I don't write , I don't know how to . My 4 brains are filled with geometric shapes and strange contrasting angles . There is an alphabet which means diddy squad to anybody else and there are songs which bestow upon me , like the farmer's charasmatic touch.

He is the only one who talks to me . We speak the same language and we exchange melodies and lyrics .

I wish I could be like all the others cows, so I wouldnt feel so astranged . I wish they were able to hear me when I sang but they choose to ignore me instead .

Over there , in another valley lives a strange heard of cows . I can hear them beckoning me from the distance . They also sing and recite poetry . Their words travel throughout the open sky .

I asked the kind farmer , if I will ever be able to get to where I belong and he replied ,

" It will take time my dearest daisy but when it is your turn , you will be able to understand why you have waited so long , to get to valley of the singing cows . They will sing the same songs as you and read the same poetry you do . They will all think just like you do and you will finally be able to understand, why you have waited so long and what this journey has all been about . Your time will come my dear youngen and when it does , you will shine like the brightest star in the night sky ."

The End .
