Testers Wanted for New Version of Site!

The new version of the website is now reaching a point where it needs testing by users other than myself for faults, functionality, and to suggest features before the new site goes live.

A tester's job would be to sign up, submit stories (be them your own or not, it doesn' t matter at this point) and comments on what other works already there. Create fake articles and comments upon them also, testing profile and biography editor functionality, test the messaging system, and also provide feedback on said functions on ways of improving and adding new features to enhance your experience with us.

The new site's not due to go live for another couple of months yet, and a lot of the administrative functions have yet to be written. Majority of the user end has now been completed, however, and is in need of thorough testing before the old site gets taken offline, databases transferred, and the new site put in it's place.

We're after between 5-10 people to help us through this phase. If you think you're up to helping us thoroughly test our new community (forum included!), please contact either myself (marc-at-short-story.net) or Dan (dan-at-short-story.net) expressing an interest. We will then contact you with details of what to do to sign up a username and begin testing.

I should also mention at this point that the database for the new site will be cleared before it goes live, obviously. By signing up you agree to be a part of our testing mailing list where all testers involved will be added to aid discussion over the new site. No other users will be added to the list, and the list will remain active for a month after the new site goes live.

Any questions? Email myself or Dan on the above emails.

Thank you for your time

Our new Bookshop is now open!

Just a short message to announce our new bookshop page.
You can buy from a selection of bestselling novels and creative writing books. The great thing is, you can choose between 'normal' book format, and ebook format!

Every book bought through our bookshop will help to pay for the upkeep of Short-Story.Net, and hopefully go towards prizes for competitions in the future smile

'Recent Additions' box on home page

As you may have noticed, the 'Recent Additions' box on the home page has changed. Now it'll show morew than just the 5 most recent! I'm hoping to have the 20 most recent, but will have to see how it affects loading time etc for different people.

Any feedback appreciated smile

New writing challenge

Hi everyone big grin

Well this is my first blog entry...gawd I must be getting old, because i've never heard of a blog before other than the jean variety!

Well I just wanted to let everyone know about our new writing challenge.
This is a great exercise in practising vantage point. Basically you write a short-story of about 500-1000 words about a day in the life of your pet (from THEIR point of view!).
What does Dover do when his master isn't about? Has your pet done something completely astonishing and you want to write about it from their point of view?
The link is below, have fun! satisfied

p.s all replies to this challenge are to be posted on the forum.

New Website

Well I thought I'd start the ball rolling with the new website information right here! Thanks to Marc who's given us this useful (cough) program to write stuff onto the blog site with! Anyhoo!

We're all after feedback on the new site, it's functionality, it's look, and any features you may wish to see implemented. Anything that you made you thing "I wish I could just..." or "That'd be handy.." with the current site, we'd like to hear! The best ones will be implemented, others may already be in place.

As it stands right now, there's no available login details to be able to use the profile/management side of things. At the moment, all we're asking for are ideas. Nearing the end of the project, there'll be a forum setup specifically for the new site's feedback, as this is probably an impractical place to post bug reports and stuff!

More information will be posted here in the future, especially when it's possible to login.

Finally! http://beta.short-story.net !! Enjoy!

Reading & Commenting

Reading & Commenting: We know that an important part of submitting your story is getting feedback, it can be good or bad, as long as it's constructive. But what better feedback could you possibly get, than from another author?

We're hoping that if you have read a story from one of our authors on the site, please start leaving comments on their work. This is not only beneficial to the author's writing, but it also gives you practise at proof-reading, which is an invaluable skill for a writer.

A lot of feedback about our site as a whole, suggests to us that to be a more efficient writers website, we need our author's to help each other along the way.
